5 Summer Gore-Busters for 2018

This year is shaping up to be a great year in the horror genre. If you have spent any time chatting with me, you know horror is my jam. My favourites are anything that falls under the possession genre. Exorcisms really get me going. However, I'm taking a look towards the summer and the new releases. As well as watching some major hitters for community nights in my Rabb.it room in June. Read on to see the top 5 horror movies I'm excited about this summer.

Date: June 8, 2018
I am all about family secrets. And with Toni Collette and Gabriel Byrne in the cast, this is sure to spook. Bloody
Disgusting's Fred Topel has called the film "psychologically and viscerally gruelling."
Summary: When Ellen passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying
secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the
sinister fate they seem to have inherited

The First Purge
Date: July 4
What a way to celebrate Independence day for our american neighbors. If you're a fan of the Purge movies
then this prequel is not to be missed. And if you (like me) haven't seen them yet now's time to get on them!
I'll be hosting a movie watch-a-long on rabb.it for the Purge, the Purge: Anarchy, and the Purge: Election Year.
You can check out the schedule here!
Summary: To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of
America test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when
the violence of oppressors meets the rage of others, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and
spread across the nation.

Summer of '84

Date: August 3
With the success of Stranger Things, Ready Player One, and INSERT OTHER 80S INSPIRED SHOW, the 80s are
making a strong comeback, right on schedule. Summer of '84 looks to take us back to that nostalgic time.
Summary: Davey thinks his neighbor Mr. Mackey is the Cape May Slayer. Dave and his three friends, Eats, Woody,
and Curtis, investigate under the guise of one of their normal suburban neighborhood games.

The Happytime Murders
Date: August 17
Puppets freak me out. I mean they really CREEP ME THE HECK OUT. Unless you're from Fraggle Rock or a
familiar green face on a stage flailing your arms around, you terrify me. So here's hoping I get some serious
adrenaline educing horror action from this summer's R rated Happytime murders.
Summary: Two detectives, one puppet, one human, are forced to work together to find a killer who is
murdering the former cast of the beloved show "The Happytime Gang."
Slender Man
Date: August 24
While this comes across as a juicy teen horror for summer, you cannot go wrong when applying a female
cast and a stand out big bad such as the Slender Man. I look forward to seeing what the end result is.
Summary: Terror strikes when four teenage girls in a small town perform a ritual to debunk the lore of a tall,
thin, horrifying figure known as the Slender Man. They soon fear that the legend is true when one of them
suddenly goes missing.

So do any of these tickle your horror bone? Or are there other movies that you're looking forwards to?
Let me know in the comments! And don't forget to check out the schedule for community movie nights here!

Stay wicked,
